Loeffel's Hat Trick Lifts Northwest to Season-Opening Victory

SENATOBIA - Northwest opened the second year of the James Beattie era with a bang on Tuesday afternoon, shaking off a narrow 1-0 halftime lead by adding six more goals in the second half, as the Lady Rangers routed Blue Mountain College, 7-0.

Sophomore forward and previous second team All-MACCC selection M.J. Loeffel recorded her first career hat trick and tapped in the Lady Rangers' first goal around the eight-minute mark of the match, with freshman Jennifer Enriquez providing the assist.

From there, Blue Mountain spent the rest of the first half on the attack, but third-year sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Olive kept the Lady Toppers at bay and off the scoreboard, finishing with six saves in the match.

Meanwhile, the Lady Rangers' offense exploded in the final 45 minutes, as sophomore Molly Rose broke the ice with a score less than five minutes into the second half. The goal began a spurt of three goals in less than 90 seconds, as Rose found Enriquez on another score, followed by Loeffel's second goal on a Rose assist.

Although Northwest led comfortably 4-0, the Lady Rangers were far from finished. Enriquez compiled her third and fourth assists of the match, first on Rose's second goal at the 57th minute and on Loeffel's third and final score at the 60th minute. As a result, the Las Cruces, N.M. freshman became the first player since Holly Newman (2013) to provide four assists in a single match.

Southwest Mississippi Community College transfer Tori Dronet would provide the Lady Rangers' final goal in the waning moments of the second half, as freshman Alana Green provided the assist.

Northwest took a total of 22 shots, 15 on-goal, while holding Blue Mountain to 11 shots and only eight on-goal.

Next up for Northwest (1-0) will be a non-division matchup at Meridian on Firday, August 27 at 1 P.M. Live stats coverage will be available on nwccrangers.com.
