LITTLE ROCK - Former Northwest and All-MACCC forward
DeAntoni Gordon has taken his talents to the Division I level, after the Mobile, Ala. native recently signed his National Letter of Intent to Little Rock.
Gordon chose Little Rock over several other Division I offers, including South Florida, Jacksonville State, Chicago State and Robert Morris University. The former Wichita State transfer led the Rangers in scoring last season, averaging 14.6 points and 5.2 boards per game.
Additionally, Gordon led the Rangers with 20 blocks on the season, including four apiece against East Mississippi and in the MACCC Tournament against Jones College.
"DeAntoni was already a great player when he came to us," Northwest head coach
Shane Oakley said. "However, he didn't let that stop him from constantly working on his game and becoming even better every single day. He was certainly a pleasure to coach and we are all thrilled to see his hard work paying off."
Gordon is the Rangers' second Division I signee from last season's squad, joining fellow forward
Carlos Curry who inked with Georgia Southern last month.
Prior to beginning his college career at Wichita State, Gordon lettered at LeFlore High School in his hometown of Mobile. He averaged 21 points, 9.5 rebounds and totaled 51 blocks during his senior campaign, earning numerous accolades from USA Today, Alabama Sports Writers Association, AL.com and more.Â
Gordon was selected as Mobile County's Class 5A-6A Player of the Year and earned a spot on the state's roster for the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game, where he scored 14 points.Â
Little Rock is coached by Darrell Walker, who guided the Trojans to an 11-15 overall record last season and the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Gordon is the first Ranger to move on to Little Rock since former guard Reggie Fondren (2009-11).Â
