Northwest Baseball Nabs Five All-MACCC Selections

Peyton Mills Receives First Team Honors

JACKSON - Following yet another postseason appearance, the Northwest baseball program saw four of its student-athletes selected for All-MACCC honors, the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference announced on Monday morning.

Sophomore infielder Peyton Mills was tabbed as the Rangers' lone first team selection, while fellow sophomore infielder Kelton Hall, pitchers Colton Peel, John Luke Marlin and freshman outfielder Caleb Hobson earned Honorable Mention recognition.

Mills, a Charleston Southern commit, concluded his three-year Northwest career by posting a strong 2021 campaign, finishing with a .311 batting average and seven doubles, 15 home runs and 44 RBIs. His 15 homers placed him in a tie for fourth most in a single season, joining Eduardo Pena (1998), Seth Walker (2009) and Hayden Leatherwood (2018).

For his career, Mills finished with a .316 batting average, 20 doubles, 22 home runs and 86 RBIs. The Southaven native's 22 homers tied him for fifth all-time with teammate Hall and current Ole Miss players Ben Van Cleve (2018-19) and Hayden Leatherwood (2018-19). Additionally, his 86 RBIs pushed him into 10th all-time, tying Seth Walker (2008-09), while his career .651 slugging percentage sits at ninth in program history.

Hall was another sophomore that ended his three-year career on a solid note, batting .328 for the season with three doubles, 12 home runs and 45 RBIs. Along with Mills, Hall also etched his name in the record books with 22 career homers, 12 coming this season alone.

A native of Ingomar, Hall finished with a .328 batting average, eight doubles and 87 RBIs, placing him in a tie for eighth in RBIs with Taylor Walker (2007-08). Hall also leaves Northwest with a .967 fielding percentage and 320 total putouts.

Peel developed into one of the strongest weapons on the mound for the Rangers during his three seasons in Senatobia. The Houston native finished the 2021 season with a 1.50 ERA and a 3-1 record, totaling 31 strikeouts in 30 innings pitched. For his career, Peel tossed 75 strikeouts in 23 appearances, finishing with a 9-2 record on the mound and a 2.51 career ERA.

Marlin became a starter for the Rangers during the second half of the season and the Tupelo freshman was certainly impressive in his 12 appearances. Marlin capped off his freshman season with a 2-3 overall record and a pair of saves against East Central and Jones College. He totaled 39 strikeouts against 12 walks in 33.1 innings pitched, including a complete game, 10-strikeout performance against Hinds.

Hobson was another freshman that quickly made an impact in the Rangers' batting order, finishing as the team's best hitter at the end of the season. The Pontotoc native batted .344 with seven doubles, three home runs and 19 RBIs, while also sporting a perfect fielding percentage and 79 putouts.

Northwest concluded the 2021 season with a 24-18 overall record, marking the 14th full season with a winning record since coach Mark Carson took over in 2006. The Rangers have also finished with 20 wins or more in every season since 1995, excluding the shortened COVID-19 season in 2020, where Northwest posted a 14-1 record.
