STATESBORO, Ga. - Northwest forward
Carlos Curry has become the first member of the Rangers' men's basketball program to officially continue his career at the Division I level, after signing with Georgia Southern University earlier this month.
Curry, a 6-foot-11, 240-pound forward, played in all 16 of the Rangers' contests this season after transferring in from Ole Miss. He started in eight games and averaged 6.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game, helping Northwest to an 8-8 overall record and the quarterfinal round of the Region 23 Playoffs.
Curry's landmark game in a Northwest uniform came in a February 25 loss against Northeast, where he totaled 19 points and 13 rebounds for one of his two double-doubles on the season. He would also score 11 points and 10 rebounds in a January road loss at Northeast, before totaling a career-high 14 rebounds in an 83-68 victory against Coahoma on March 18.
Prior to Northwest, Curry starred at Dougherty Comprehensive High School, where he averaged over 15 points and 10 rebounds as a senior, earning all-state honorable mention accolades and a three-star rating on 247 Sports.
A member of the Sun Belt Conference, Georgia Southern finished 13-13 under first-year head coach Brian Burg, while compiling a 7-9 record against conference opponents.Â
