Rose's Golden Goal Lifts Northwest to Division Victory

RAYMOND - It took 102 total minutes and the season's first double overtime match, but for Molly Rose and the Northwest Lady Rangers, capturing the season's first division victory was well worth the wait.

Sophomore Katelyn Rock placed the corner kick perfectly in the early stages of double overtime, as Rose tapped in the game-winning goal on a header, clinching the 2-1 victory at Hinds on Tuesday afternoon.

Rose's game-winner was good for her fourth goal of the season, as the Lady Rangers improved to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the MACCC North Division. With the loss, Hinds dropped to 0-6 and 0-3 in division competition.

Rose also provided an assist 11 minutes into the match, as Ally Bailey tapped in a quick shot to put Northwest ahead 1-0.

Despite the early goal, Hinds turned up the pressure over the final 20 minutes of the first half, eventually tying the match on Taylor Ford's score in the 41st minute. However, neither team could connect on anything in the second half, which forced overtime with the match tied at 1-1.

Northwest outshot the Lady Eagles 18-13 in regulation, but owned the tempo in overtime with a 6-0 shot advantage. The Lady Rangers finished the match with a 24-13 shot advantage and a 10-8 margin on goal.

Bailey and Rose combined to take 14 of the Lady Rangers' 24 shots, including four on goal for Rose. Rock also took three shots, all on goal.

Maggie Olive and Trinity Baynham split time between the posts, with Olive notching three saves in the first half. Baynham played the final 57 minutes at keeper, collecting four saves and earning her first victory of the season.

Northwest will host Itawamba on Friday, April 23 at the Senatobia Sports Park. The match is slated for a 1 P.M. start and will be streamed on nwccrangers.com/watch.
