JACKSON - Whether it's been her play in the outfield, her performance in the circle or her red hot bat, sophomore Saige Koczka has been as consistent as they come for Northwest softball this season.

Her efforts finally paid off this week, as Koczka was voted as the MACCC Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday morning.

In a 2-2 week for the Rangers that featured a sweep of Holmes and a pair of one-run losses at Hinds, Koczka went 9-for-15 at the plate for a .600 weekly batting average. The Southaven native added three doubles, four home runs and 10 RBIs, including two homers in a run-rule victory against Holmes on March 24.

Additionally, Koczka also finished 1-1 in the circle, throwing five strikeouts in a combined 11.2 innings of work.

Batting .468 on the season, Koczka has been the driving force behind Northwest shattering season and career hitting records. She currently sits at 11 home runs, good for a season and career record and also owns single-season records for total bases (82) and ranks third in RBIs (38), while tied for 10th all-time in career RBIs (46) and ranking sixth in career total bases (108).

Koczka's 11 homers also have her tied for third nationally among NJCAA Division II programs and her 38 RBIs have her fifth in the nation as well.

As a team, the Rangers have 35 homers on the season, shattering the program's previous record of 17 that was set back in 2012. Northwest also has six triples on the season and 50 doubles, good for sixth and eighth in a single season, respectively.

Northwest sits well within the playoff hunt entering the final month of regular season competition, as the Rangers hold an overall record of 12-10 and a 9-9 mark in MACCC play. The Rangers will be back in action on Tuesday, April 6 at Mississippi Delta for a 1/3 P.M. doubleheader.
