Box Score SENATOBIA - Three Northwest players finished in double figures on Monday night, as the Rangers used a big second half surge to score an 83-55 victory against Mississippi Delta at Howard Coliseum.
DeAntoni Gordon led the way with 13 points and freshman
Jaylon Sanders added 12 points and a team-high three steals.
Forte Prater also scored 10 points to go along with five assists and two steals.
It didn't take long for Northwest to pull away from the visiting Trojans as the Rangers led 32-15 late in the first half. Mississippi Delta picked up a small burst of momentum just before halftime with a 7-4 run to close the gap to 36-22 at the break.
Northwest came out on fire after halftime, as the Rangers scored a season-high 47 second half points that left the Trojans in the dust.
Nearly every player that checked in from the bench finished with points, as the Rangers earned 33 points from the reserves.
Mario Fenner, Jr. led the way with a season-high eight points, while
James Richards III and
Trey Jackson accounted for six points apiece.
Carlos Curry was held to just eight points but led the Rangers with nine rebounds.
As a team, Northwest shot 47 percent from the floor and 29 percent from beyond the arc. The Rangers also out-muscled the Trojans in the paint, collecting 47 rebounds to just 36 boards from the opposition.
Despite the loss, Mississippi Delta had three players finish in double figures as well. Morgan Green, Chavis Banks and Willie Eagins each finished with 10 points apiece.
With the win, the Rangers improved to 3-3 on the season and remained unbeaten at Howard Coliseum. Mississippi Delta fell to 1-4 on the season with the loss.
Northwest will enjoy a much-needed break before returning to action on Monday, February 15 against East Mississippi at 6 p.m. It will be the Lions' first visit to the Five Star City this season and a chance for the Rangers to avenge a three-point loss that occurred in Scooba on January 21.
