JACKSON - For the second week in a row, a Northwest student-athlete has earned Player of the Week honors from the Mississippi Associaton of Community Colleges Conference.
Sophomore infielder
Peyton Mills was voted as this week's honoree, the MACCC announced on Tuesday afternoon. He joins
Kelton Hall, who won POTW recognition last week.
Additionally, the NJCAA announced on Wednesday afternoon that Mills had been selected for its national Player of the Week award as well.
Mills has been red hot at the plate over the last week, despite a 1-3 week for the Rangers that included two losses to East Mississippi and a split against No. 11 Northeast.
In four games, Mills went 7-for-11 at the plate for a .636 batting average. The Southaven native smashed five home runs during that span, along with two doubles and 11 RBIs.
Following the nomination deadline, Mills also added to his home run total in Monday's sweep of Coahoma, bringing him to six homers for the season and 13 all-time. Mills needs six more to break into the program's career record books and move into a five-way tie for seventh in career home runs.
Northwest (5-3) is scheduled to resume play on Saturday, February 13 against Holmes at 1/4 P.M.
