Tanner Cable Signed to Frontier League's Ottawa Titans

OTTAWA, Ont. - Former Northwest pitcher Tanner Cable is heading north in 2022 to continue his professional baseball career.

Cable will join the Ottawa Titans in the upcoming season, the organization announced on Wednesday afternoon. The 2022 season will mark the Hernando native's fifth year in the Frontier League, a partner league of Major League Baseball.

Cable spent the 2021 season with the Frontier League's Gateway Grizzles and Schaumburg Boomers going a combined 1-2 with a 2.03 ERA in 29 appearances. The 6-foot-5 right-hander tossed 26.2 innings, striking out 46 batters. He has also had pervious stints with the River City Rascals and Evansville Otters in four professional seasons, going a career 6-10 with a 3.61 ERA in 88 professional games.

Cable spent the 2013-14 seasons at Northwest, before signing with Delta State University as a junior. While with the Rangers, Cable was 10-6 in 24 appearances (17 starts) with a 4.18 ERA, two complete games, two saves and three combined shutouts. He struck out 87 in 88.2 career innings.

Despite being drafted in the 26th round by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft, Cable chose to return to Northwest for his sophomore season, where he was a second team All-MACJC selection. He made five appearances as a junior at DSU, all in relief, and pitched two scoreless innings against Mississippi Valley State, allowing one hit with four strikeouts.

Cable then transferred to Belhaven University to conclude his college career, earning team captain honors and a NCCAA Mideast All-Region First Team nod. During his senior season in 2017, Cable struck out 81 batters against 36 walks, while posting a 2.09 ERA in 12 appearances.

Cable is one of four Rangers currently playing professional baseball, joining Cody Reed (Tampa Bay Rays), Jarod Wright (Chicago Cubs) and Grant Black (St. Louis Cardinals).
