Trotter Hits Season High in Victory Against ASU Mid-South

SENATOBIA - Northwest guard Tierra Trotter led all scorers with a season-high 24 points, as the Lady Rangers earned a 79-68 triumph against ASU Mid-South on Monday evening.

Trotter's performance marked her sixth 20-point game of her career and the third one of the season. I'Yana Ragin also posted 17 points, a new season-high, and both players fell just shy of a double-double, earning eight rebounds apiece.

Northwest trailed 16-14 after the opening period, but the Lady Rangers rallied off 20 points in the second to take a narrow 34-32 halftime advantage.

ASU Mid-South regained the lead early in the second half, but could only build a six-point advantage, as the Lady Rangers used an 11-0 run to stretch their lead to 47-42 with three minutes left in the quarter.

A layup from Aaliyah Lee briefly stopped the drought for the Lady Greyhounds, but Northwest eventually pushed the lead to 10 points as the third period came to an end. Claire Leak continued the Lady Rangers' run as the fourth period began, hitting a fastbreak layup to extend the lead to 56-44.

ASU Mid-South would cut into the deficit with three quick three-pointers from Jaylia Reed, dropping the score to a one-point Northwest lead with 6:35 to go. Ragin then countered with a couple three-pointers of her own, helping the Lady Rangers to a 64-58 advantage.

Northwest finally pushed the lead back to double figures with three minutes to go and the Lady Greyhounds came no closer than eight points the rest of the way, as the Lady Rangers improved to 6-3 on the season.

Both teams finished near even in shooting, with the Lady Rangers holding a slight 41 percent advantage from the floor. Northwest also bested the Lady Greyhounds from the charity stripe, earning a 65 percent margin.

Northwest made the biggest difference in bench points, outscoring ASU Mid-South 28-5. Sha'kirria Everett provided 16 of those points, followed by six from Cailey Walker and five from Leak.

Lee led ASU Mid-South with 21 points, nine rebounds and five blocks, while Reed earned 20 points. Meleanna Williams also posted 13 points with seven rebounds for the Lady Greyhounds.

Next up for Northwest is Thursday's conference-opener at East Mississippi. The Lady Rangers previously defeated EMCC earlier in the season in a home non-conference matchup, 65-56.
