Davis, Mabry to Continue Careers at Four-Year Level

Duo marks first next-level signees for Northwest volleyball

SENATOBIA - For the first time in program history, a pair of Northwest volleyball student-athletes will represent the Lady Rangers at the four-year level.

Setter Alexia Davis and middle blocker/hitter Chariah Mabry signed with Miles College and Mississippi Valley State, respectively, on Thursday morning. The duo marks the first next-level signees for the Northwest volleyball program, which just wrapped up its second season with 14 victories.

"I am excited for both Alexia and Chariah and I am glad that they were a part of our program for these two seasons," Northwest coach Allison Burchyett. "They are two trailblazers for us as our first next-level signees. I know that each of them will do great things in the future."

Despite battling injuries for part of her sophomore season, Davis compiled 245 assists to lead the Lady Rangers this fall. The Horn Lake native and Lake Cormorant HS product also totaled 135 digs and 10 service aces, good for fifth on the team in both categories.

For her career, Davis leaves Northwest with 423 assists, 219 digs and 21 service aces, spanning two seasons. Her career-best performance came in the Lady Rangers' inaugural victory at Coastal Alabama-East, where she totaled 31 assists and 16 digs, both career highs.

"I felt like I learned a lot here," Davis said, reflecting on her time at Northwest. "Practice pushed me and made me a better person, and we had a lot more matches this year that allowed me to get more touches and see different levels of competition. I feel like Coach Burchyett and Coach Gammell helped me a lot and I'm thankful for all that they have done for me."

Mabry cemented herself as the Lady Rangers' leader in blocks over her Northwest career. The Walnut Ridge, Ark. native totaled a team-high 46 blocks this year, while earning 95 kills, finishing third among her teammates.

Mabry ends her Lady Ranger tenure with 79 career blocks and 168 total kills. She earned a career-high six total blocks in a pair of matches against Itawamba and Pearl River last season, while totaling a career-high 10 kills in a February 7 win against Coastal Alabama-East.

"I think my time here was well-spent," Mabry said. "I have grown as a person and I feel like I have seen varying levels of competition here, and I believe that has prepared me for the Division I level."

Northwest finished 14-19 in its second year, increasing from six wins during the program's inaugural season.
