CHARLOTTE - After a 56-21 MACCC Championship victory against Hinds over the weekend, Northwest has inched up one more spot from No. 4 to No. 3 in the newest batch of NJCAA Division I Football rankings.
One final poll will be released next Monday, which will officially setup the four-team field for the inaugural NJCAA Division I Football Playoff. Teams ranked No. 1 and No. 2 will host the third and fourth-ranked teams in the semifinals on December 4-5, with the winners advancing to the national championship game December 17 in Little Rock.
Since briefly falling out of the rankings at the start of October, Northwest has won six straight games to conclude the regular season at 9-2 overall. Four of those victories came against ranked opponents, including three top 10 wins (Mississippi Gulf Coast, Jones College and Hinds).
Iowa Western remains atop the polls with a 9-0 record, followed by New Mexico Military Institute (9-1) at No. 2. Snow College fell from the previous No. 2 slot to No. 4, as the Badgers concluded their regular season with a 7-1 mark. Monroe College remains on the outside looking in at No. 5, despite a 9-0 overall record.
As for the rest of the MACCC, East Mississippi continues to lurk at No. 6 with a 9-1 overall record, followed by Hinds, which remained seventh. Jones College is ranked No. 9, followed by Mississippi Gulf Coast at No. 13.
