CHARLOTTE - Following a shakeup in the top 10 and a 41-13 victory against Itawamba last week, Northwest has jumped up two more spots to No. 7 overall, the NJCAA announced in its latest rankings Monday afternoon.
Northwest is now 6-2 on the season and 4-1 in the MACCC North Division after the win against ICC, propelling the Rangers to their third straight victory.Â
Following Mississippi Gulf Coast's upset of previous No. 1 Jones College last week, East Mississippi has now been placed in the top spot, followed by Iowa Western, Independence (Kan.) at the No. 2 and No. 3 slots. Jones slid down to No. 4, while Snow College rounds out the top five.
Other MACCC programs ranked include Hinds at No. 11 and Mississippi Gulf Coast at No. 13.Â
Northwest will close out the regular season on Thursday, October 28 at Mississippi Delta. The Rangers are 46-23-2 all-time against the Trojans and have won each of the last eight meetings and 15 of the last 16 matchups.
Mississippi Delta (4-4, 2-3 MACCC North) has won two in a row, including the most recent 24-15 victory at Holmes last Thursday. The Trojans also have wins recorded against Northeast, Pearl River and East Central, averaging 16.5 points per game and 276.3 yards of total offense.
