Clay Casey Named GSC Second Team All-Decade

CLEVELAND, Miss. – Former Northwest and Delta State outfielder Clay Casey has earned a nod to the Gulf South Conference's Second Team All-Decade list for baseball, the league announced on Tuesday morning.

Casey earned the recognition after a storied two-year career with Delta State from 2017-18, finishing with a .341 batting average, 29 doubles, two triples, 35 home runs, and 132 RBIs. He slugged .664 with a .420 on-base percentage and helped the Statesmen to the 2017 GSC and NCAA Division II South Region titles and an berth in the NCAA Division II College World series.

For his efforts, Casey garnered two All-GSC First Team accolades and earned an Honorable Mention All-American nod by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Off the field, the Southaven native and DeSoto Central product earned two selections to the GSC Spring Academic Honor Roll and was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-American All-District Team.

Despite only spending the 2015 season in Senatobia, Casey earned the starting role in right field for Northwest and finished fourth on the team in batting average, hitting .333 with 10 doubles and two triples. Halso led the team several categories during his 2015 campaign, including total RBIs (39), home runs (12) and on-base percentage (.468).

Casey was named MACJC Player of the Week on March 26, 2015 after going 9-for-21 (.429) with a double, three home runs (two game-winners), six RBIs and four runs scored in games vs No. 8 Jones College, Dyersburg State and Coahoma. He also earned a No. 41 ranking in Perfect Game's Top 200 JUCO prospects list.

After departing Northwest, Casey spent his sophomore season at the University of Houston in 2016 and started in 28 games. Casey batted .226 for the Cougars with five home runs, tied for second most on the team, and collected 18 RBIs with six multi-hit and four multi-RBI games.

The GSC All-Decade Awards factored in the contributions from the years 2010-19 and were jointly selected by institutional personnel, coaches and league administrators.
