CLEVELAND – A brief stint in Senatobia was all that was needed for redshirt sophomore transfer
Landon Zizmann as the Northwest right-hander has signed to rejoin his former Delta State program next season.
"Landon really works hard on his craft of pitching," Northwest baseball coach
Mark Carson said. "His leadership and work ethic will be missed but I am proud that we had a hand in helping him resume his career at Delta State."
Zizmann, a Tate County native, made only four appearances for the Rangers in 2020 but all were quality outings. The Strayhorn High School product pitched a total of 12 innings with 19 strikeouts against one walk and departs Northwest with a 2-0 record on the mound with a save and a 0.00 ERA.
Zizmann's final outing as a Ranger proved to be his best one as he tossed 11 strikeouts with no walks and just two hits allowed in a 4-1 complete-game performance against Coahoma on March 6.
"I am very blessed that I was able to spend some time at Northwest," Zizmann said. "It was an amazing time and I will do my best to represent the Rangers while I'm in Cleveland next year."
Zizmann arrived to Northwest after battling an elbow injury at Delta State. He initially signed with the Statesmen out of high school after earning all-star recognition at Strayhorn, while helping the Mustangs to five straight region championships.
Zizmann is the sixth member of the 2020 Northwest baseball team to sign or commit to the four-year level, joining
Dalton Fowler (Oklahoma),
Parker Stinnett and
Brayland Skinner (Mississippi State),
Jackson Smith (Mississippi College) and
Trent Bunting (Arkansas-Monticello). The Rangers went 14-1 and were ranked No. 8 nationally before the suspension of the 2020 season.
Under first-year head coach Rodney Batts, Delta State possessed a 13-10 overall record with six Gulf South Conference victories before the cancellation of the remaining 2020 slate.
