Box Score CLINTON – Three Lady Rangers scored in double figures as Northwest zeroed in on Daphane White and Gulf Coast throughout the evening on Thursday, defeating the Lady Bulldogs 62-54 in the semifinal matchup of the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament.
Northwest led 15-14 at the conclusion of the first quarter and outscored Gulf Coast 18-7 in the second quarter to take a 33-21 advantage into halftime.
Northwest never trailed in the second half but did have to hold off a late spark from the Lady Bulldogs over the final four minutes to clinch the victory, avenging a four-point November non-conference loss while securing its ticket to the tournament championship contest.
Sophomore
Lindsay Hall led the Lady Rangers with 13 points, which included nine from beyond the arc. Second team All-MACJC selection
Claire Fleming provided 12 points, seven rebounds and four blocks, followed by 10 points and six rebounds from
Mallory Russell.
Kayla Freeman was held to five points but the sophomore guard led the Lady Rangers with 13 rebounds and eight assists.
White notched a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double for Gulf Coast to lead the Lady Bulldogs in scoring.
With the win, Northwest improved to 17-9 on the season and earned a berth into the Region 23 title game on Friday, March 6 in Clinton. The Lady Rangers will get a rematch with 10th-ranked Jones College, a team that edged out a nine-point victory in the opening round of last week's MACJC Tournament.
