Box Score 2 SENATOBIA – Fresh off two run-rule wins on Friday, ninth-ranked Northwest didn't miss a beat on Saturday afternoon, sweeping Olive-Harvey College in a pair of five-inning victories.
Northwest improved to 10-1 after finishing 5-0 for the week, which started with an 8-2 win against Wallace State on Feb. 25.
Northwest will resume action at Columbia State in a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 4 at 2/5 p.m.
Game 1 – #9 Northwest 12, Olive-Harvey 0 (5 inn.)
Sophomore transfer
Landon Zizmann delivered five strikeouts in his first Northwest start, as the Rangers delivered a combined no-hitter with the 12-0 run-rule win.
After shutting down the Panthers in the opening frame, Northwest used a two-run single from
Peyton Mills and a wild pitch to score three runs in the bottom of the first.
Northwest turned up the heat even more in the second inning with eight runs crossing the plate, including three off a
Garrett Riggs homer, his second of the season.
Hammer Franks got in on the action in the bottom of the third, as the sophomore outfielder teed off on a solo home run to make it a commanding 12-0 advantage.
Franks and Mills led Northwest at the plate, combining for half of the Rangers' eight hits.
Game 2 – #9 Northwest 15, Olive-Harvey College (5 inn.)
Three home runs in the bottom of the first set the tone for the fourth and final game against Olive-Harvey College, as the Rangers delivered their sixth run-rule win of the season and fourth of the weekend.
Mills' three-run homer was followed by a solo shot from Riggs, quickly giving Northwest a 4-0 lead in the first.
Freshman
Wesley Lester got in on the scoring as well, hammering a solo home run to make it a 9-0 advantage for the Rangers after just one inning of play.
Although the Panthers made things interesting with four runs in the top of the third, the Rangers got four back in the bottom half of the inning to jump back to a comfortable 13-4 advantage.
Northwest added two more in the fourth and Olive-Harvey came up empty-handed in the fifth, clinching the early 15-4 victory in run-rule fashion.
Joel Wilkinson earned the win for Northwest in his first start and
Jackson Smith tossed 1.2 innings of relief.
At the plate, the Rangers smashed 15 hits with two apiece from Franks, Mills and
Ty Leatherwood.
