JACKSON – Northwest sophomore guards
Jakobi Pearson and
Claire Fleming have been announced as first and second team All-MACJC honorees, the conference announced on Wednesday morning.
Pearson led the Northwest men in scoring all season long, averaging 18.5 points per game with 5.4 rebounds, three steals and 2.5 assists per game. The Duncanville, Texas native and Garden City Community College transfer has played and started in all 24 games so far for the Rangers, helping Northwest to a 15-9 overall record and the third seed from the MACJC North Division.
Fleming, a second team All-MACJC selection, lit up the stat sheet throughout conference play due to her sharp shooting from beyond the arc. The Lewisburg native averaged 7.2 points per game, the third most on the team, but shot a team-best 41 percent from three-point range.
Her three-point shooting provided the Lady Rangers with a huge spark off the bench throughout the season, helping Northwest to a 15-9 overall record and the No. 4 seed from the MACJC North Division. Fleming opened the year with a pair of 16 and 17-point efforts against Southwest Mississippi and Pearl River and scored in double figures for four consecutive games in January against Mississippi Delta, Holmes, Arkansas State Mid-South and Itawamba.
Both Northwest teams will get one last shot at a deep playoff run next week in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament from Clinton.
