Box Score 2 BOONEVILLE – First year head coach
Chelsea Bramlett earned a win in her Northwest coaching debut against Calhoun on Thursday evening, but the Rangers ended the day with a 6-2 loss to Wabash Valley College as part of the annual Northeast TigerFest invitational.
Northwest closed out the day with a 1-1 start to the season. The Rangers will return to the TigerFest on Friday evening against Bossier Parish and Jefferson College, with both games slated to be held at Corinth High School.
Game 1 – Northwest 7, Calhoun 5 (5 inn.)
Northwest made a statement at the plate and in the field with its win against Calhoun on Thursday evening.
Sophomore ace
Lacey Coats delivered four strikeouts with two hits surrendered and no runs allowed in 3.2 innings of work, earning a 1-0 start to the season.
At the plate, the Rangers churned out 11 hits, led by two apiece from sophomore transfer
Emma Grace Schell and freshmen duo
Saige Koczka and
Oakley Laughter.
Brittni Beard got the scoring started for Northwest with her RBI in the top of the first, followed by an RBI from Schell in the second that made it a 2-0 lead for the Rangers.
Northwest added four runs in the top of the fourth, sparked by an RBI-triple from
Mary Britton Faulkner and followed by back-to-back RBI base hits from Schell and Laughter. An RBI-triple from Koczka made it a comfortable 6-0 lead for the Rangers.
After Northwest plated an additional run in the top of the fifth to make it 7-0, the Warhawks sparked a five-run rally in the bottom of the frame to put the Rangers on their toes. Calhoun was unable to fully complete the comeback however, as Northwest took away the victory in five innings.
Game 2 – Wabash Valley College 6, Northwest 2
Trailing 2-1 after five complete innings, Northwest saw Wabash Valley College score four in the bottom of the sixth to deny the Rangers the season-opening sweep.
MyCala Helms drove in
Madison Crosby to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, only to have the Warriors tie it up at 1-1 in the fourth inning.
Wabash Valley finished with eight hits on the evening while Northwest was held to just three.
Freshman
Kaylei Peterson made her debut in the circle and lasted four complete innings with two strikeouts and a run allowed.
