CHARLOTTE – After tossing an abbreviated no-hitter last week, freshman
Parker Stinnett has garnered both MACJC and NJCAA Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time this season, both organizations announced this week.
Stinnett struck out eight in five innings of work in last Thursday's 10-0 run-rule victory against Mississippi Delta.
Through four appearances, the Oxford native has compiled a 3-1 record with a 0.90 ERA and 28 strikeouts, helping Northwest to a No. 20 national ranking and an 11-3 start to the season.
Stinnett previously won Pitcher of the Week honors from both organizations after his opening day performance against Calhoun on Feb. 9, where he struck out eight and allowed one hit in six frames in a 4-0 victory. His no-hit bid in that contest was broken up with a leadoff single in the fifth.
The Oxford High School product was 4-5 with a 3.95 ERA and 75 strikeouts and hit .297 from the plate with 12 doubles, a triple, home run and 29 RBIs last season. He helped the Chargers to back-to-back 5A state championships in 2015-16.
Northwest will open MACJC competition on Saturday, March 16 against 4th-ranked Jones College at Jim Miles Field. The doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m. with live stats and video available for both games through nwccrangers.com.
