CAMDEN, Ark. – Using a 23-point effort from
R.J. Duhart and 21 more from
Kavonte Tunstall, the Northwest men's basketball program was able to pick up an 85-75 victory in its first road trip of the season at SAU Tech on Friday evening.
With the win, Northwest moved to 2-0 on the season.
Northwest led 42-36 at the break behind solid first half efforts from Duhart and
Jakobi Pearson. Duhart scored 15 of his first 17 points in the first half, while Pearson had nine and finished with 17 for the evening.
SAU Tech remained within striking distance for the entirety of the contest but the Rangers never buckled, sustaining the lead and surviving to earn their first road victory.
Tunstall had eight rebounds to lead the Rangers as Pearson chipped in seven boards and four steals.
Northwest shot 47 percent from the floor and 35 from three-point range, compared to 43 and 28 percent respectively for SAU Tech.
Sheldon Stevens led all scorers with 32 total points for the Rockets, while Malik Miller and Jaland Mitchell added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
