SENATOBIA – Holmes freshman forward Cariel Ellis finished with a career-high five goals as the No. 20 Lady Bulldogs earned the season sweep of Northwest with a 6-0 defeat on Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss, Northwest dropped to 3-9 overall and 2-4 in the MACJC North Division. Holmes improved to 12-2 on the season and 5-1 in division competition.
Ellis added the first Holmes goal off an assist from Laney Smith 11 minutes into the match, but the Lady Rangers' defense played well for the majority of the first half, keeping Holmes off the board until another Ellis goal in the 37th minute.
Despite the best defensive efforts from Northwest, Holmes quickly pulled away in the second half as Ellis added her third goal in the 54th minute on an empty-netter. Isabelle Wade then followed with another Lady Bulldog goal less than six minutes later, pushing the Lady Rangers' deficit to 4-0.
Holmes would later add insult to injury, scoring two more goals in the 82nd minute and with seven seconds remaining, solidifying a 6-0 shutout loss for Northwest.
Holmes outshot Northwest 32-7 for the match and 18-3 on goal.
Freshman

Next on deck for Northwest is a crucial division battle with Itawamba in Fulton on Friday, Oct. 11. The match is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
