Blaylock, Leatherwood Highlight Five Rangers on 2018 All-MACJC Baseball Team

JACKSON – Headlined by first-team outfielders Brant Blaylock and Hayden Leatherwood, five Rangers have been named to the 2018 All-MACJC Baseball Team announced on Friday.

Joining the duo on this year's all-conference team were second team catcher Hunter White and pitchers Ian Hawkins and Nathan Harrison.

Blaylock and Leatherwood were also named NJCAA All-Region 23 and will be in the mix for NJCAA All-American honors to be released mid-June.

Blaylock, a redshirt sophomore and Mississippi State transfer, made a splash in his lone season in Senatobia. Blaylock hit .385 with an .833 slugging percentage and led the team in runs scored (52), hits (60), multi-hit games (17), multi-RBI games (13), home runs (18) and RBIs (62).

The two-time MACJC Player of the Week selection and Southern Miss signee broke a 19-year school record with his 18th home run in the NJCAA Region 23 Playoffs against Gulf Coast. His 62 RBIs ranks second-best in a single-season.

Leatherwood hit .388 with nine doubles, three triples, 15 home runs and 47 RBIs in his freshman season. He ended the year on a home run spree, hitting seven in his final 10 games. His .905 slugging percentage ranks second-best in a single-season behind Ranger assistant coach, Bill Selby.

White hit .338, third-best on the team, boosting his average nearly .160 points the final month and a half of the season. He had six doubles, three triples, two home runs and 16 RBIs. The sophomore ends his Ranger career second all-time in runners caught stealing, throwing out an impressive 21 in two seasons.

Hawkins, a Memphis signee, finished the year 4-2 with a 3.86 ERA in 13 appearances. The sophomore struck out a team-high 55 batters in 39.2 innings of work and opponents hit just .174 against him. Hawkins moved to the bullpen midway through the season and allowed only five earned runs his final 18.2 innings.

Harrison, who's moving on to Arkansas State, flourished in a starter role his sophomore year. Harrison was 4-3 with a 3.83 in 13 appearances, going five innings or more in six of his seven starts.

Northwest ended the year 30-14 and made its ninth straight postseason appearance under Mark Carson.
