BOONEVILLE – For the second time this season, Northwest redshirt sophomore outfielder
Brant Blaylock has earned Player of the Week recognition by the MACJC, the organization announced on Tuesday afternoon.
In a 3-1 week that resulted in a split at Coahoma and a sweep at Southwest Mississippi, Blaylock went 9-for-18 (.500) with three home runs, two doubles, 12 RBIs, eight runs scored and a 1.111 slugging percentage.
Since transferring in from Mississippi State, Blaylock has been a driving force at the plate for the Rangers.
Blaylock currently leads the team with a .368 average, 13 home runs, seven doubles, a triple and 46 RBIs. The Southern Miss signee is closing in on the Rangers' single-season home-run record of 17, set by both Eduardo Pena and Marcus Van Every in 1999.
Northwest (20-10, 10-6 MACJC) will continue its 10-game homestand by welcoming 16th-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast to Jim Miles Field on Friday, April 13. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
