SENATOBIA – Freshman left-hander
Dalton Fowler, who will take the mound for the Rangers this spring for the first time, has already decided where he will continue his baseball career after Northwest.
On Friday, surrounded by family members, Fowler inked a National Letter of Intent to play for Ole Miss.
"We expect Dalton to give us a lot of really good innings and pitch at a high level this spring," second-year pitching coach
Domenick Carlini said. "He has the potential to be one of the best pitchers in our conference. After a year of junior college experience, he's going to be even more prepared to pitch at the next level. Ole Miss is getting a good one. We think the sky is the limit for him."
The 6-foot-5, 190-pound product of Arlington, Tenn., helped head coach Chris Ring and the Tigers to back-to-back playoff appearances and a combined 45-21 record over his final two seasons to close his high school career.
Fowler was 6-1 with a 1.62 ERA as a senior, punching out 71 batters in 47.1 innings of work against 29 walks. He allowed just 11 earned runs in nine appearances.
As a junior, Fowler was 5-1 with a save and 3.33 ERA in 36 innings of work, striking out 40 batters against 22 walks.
Fowler is the fourth Ranger to ink a Division I baseball scholarship in the NCAA's early signing period, joining outfielder
Hayden Leatherwood (Ole Miss), shortstop
Tanner Leggett (Mississippi State) and pitcher
Reed Harding (Memphis).
