Tremont Robinson flirted with a third triple-double,
Justin Flakes netted a career-high 18 and the Rangers shot over 50 percent for the fourth time this season in a 101-85 win over Mississippi Delta Thursday night at Howard Coliseum.
Northwest improved to 11-1 overall and 3-0 in the north to take over sole possession of first and hit the century mark for a fourth time this season. MDCC dropped to 4-8 overall, 0-2 in division play.
The Trojans got out to a hot start behind Terrell Jennings, taking a game-high 14-5 lead 3:32 into the contest.
Northwest rattled off the next eight points, on baskets from four different Rangers, and rallied to tie it at 20-all on
Jitaurious Gordon's 3-pointer.
Leading 34-30 with 6:21 to play in the half, Flakes buried a triple to jump start a 13-1 run as Northwest took a 52-37 lead into intermission.
The lead quickly ballooned to 20 on a basket and free throw from T. Robinson and it was 95-68 with 5:53 to play before the Rangers emptied their bench.
MDCC outscored Northwest 17-6 down the stretch to make it a 101-85 final.
Northwest shot 52 percent for the game and hit 12 of 26 from downtown against 43 percent shooting for the Trojans.
Behind Robinson's career-high 28 points, seven assists and seven steals, Flakes added 18,
Mike Robinson chipped in 14 and Gordon added 12.
Cameron Walker finished with a game-high 13 rebounds.
Jennings led MDCC with 20 points and eight boards. Queshod Young added 11 and Xa'Vavier Jones chipped in 10.
Northwest will take a six-game winning streak to Goodman on Saturday (originally scheduled for 1/16) to face the 20th-ranked Holmes Bulldogs (11-2, 2-1). Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. and it's free admission for all fans.
