SENATOBIA – Two, lengthy power outages, torrential rain, strong winds and sloppy field conditions eventually had its way with the 2017 football season-opener Thursday night at Bobby Franklin Field.
Hinds and No. 6 Northwest played scoreless football through three quarters before the game was suspended at the start of the fourth quarter after a second power outage that lasted over an hour.
The game started on time at 6:30 p.m. and was played the first quarter and a half without any lights, a scoreboard or power in either press box. The lone form of communication were wireless headsets for each respective coaching staff.
Officially, the game was declared a no-contest and stats did not count for or against either team.
Northwest will hit the road the next two weeks, traveling to Pearl River (Sept. 7) and Itawamba (Sept. 14).
