SENATOBIA – Behind complete-game performances from
Tori Luke and
Harley Smith in the circle and a balanced offensive afternoon, Northwest swept 17th-ranked Pearl River by 5-3 and 8-2 finals to run its season-long winning streak out to eight games.
Northwest improved to 10-6 overall and 4-0 in conference play, while PRCC fell to 8-8 and 0-4 in the MACJC.
Kayla Williams' RBI-double and a fielding error a batter later allowed PRCC to take an early 2-0 lead in the opening game of the day before five unanswered runs for the Rangers over the next four frames helped Northwest hold off the Wildcats 5-3.
Kailey Walker helped cut the deficit in half, 2-1, in the bottom of the first, drawing a leadoff walk, stealing second and third and scoring off Luke's RBI-single.
Northwest took its first lead in the third, once again started by Walker in the leadoff spot. Walker singled, stole second and eventually stole home to tie the game before Luke's sac fly gave the Rangers their first lead at 3-2.

PRCC cut the deficit to 5-3 in the sixth, using Ilyssa Eaton's two-out infield single, but would go quietly in the seventh.
Luke (5-2) won her fourth straight decision in the circle, scattering eight hits, three runs (two earned), two strikeouts and two walks on 99 pitches. She was also 1-for-1 at the plate with two RBIs.
Northwest was out-hit 8-6 in the win, with
Leeah Henson going 2-for-3 in the designated player spot.
Eight different Rangers combined for nine hits in the nightcap, with a four-run sixth breaking open a close game in an 8-2 Ranger win. Northwest fell behind 2-0 for a second straight game but rallied with eight unanswered over the final four frames.

Sallie Rose Carver's two-out RBI-single knotted it at 2-2.
Northwest added two more in the fifth with two outs, using Walker's RBI-single before a stolen base and wild pitch scored her for the 4-2 lead.
A four-run sixth put the game out of reach, with Northwest sending eight batters to the plate.
Allison Williams' RBI-single scored Luke after a leadoff double and Akerson, Walker and Carver followed with RBIs.
Smith (3-3) retired 12 of the final 16 batters she faced in her second career complete-game, scattering eight hits, two runs, four strikeouts and a walk on 128 pitches.
Northwest will travel to Coahoma on Wednesday, March 15 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
