SENATOBIA – Hosting Faith Prep Academy and Lawson State as part of the two-day Northwest Tri-States Classic at Howard Coliseum, Northwest took care of business 99-72 and 93-78 to stay perfect on the young season.
The 5-0 start is tops in the MACJC north division through the first two weeks of the regular season.
Northwest led wire-to-wire in the lopsided win Thursday over Faith Prep, taking a commanding 60-29 lead at half.
The Ranger bench scored 69 of Northwest's 99 points, led by
Jitaurious Gordon's 15 in 18 minutes.
Clinton Moses added 15,
Miles Washington had 14,
Justin Flakes chipped in 12,
Tremont Robinson had 10 and
Mike Robinson nearly missed a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds.
Northwest forced 30 Warrior turnovers in the game that led to 44 points.
Against Lawson State on Friday, Northwest scored the first seven points of the game before the Cougars rallied to knot it at 20-all at the 9:05-mark of the first.
Therrell Gosier II's layup then kickstarted a 21-6 run over the next six minutes to help the Rangers pull away by 15 to take control of the game.
Robinson had 14 and Gordon had 13 first-half points as the Rangers led 51-35.
Both teams were red-hot from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, with Lawson shooting 59 percent against 57 for Northwest.
Lawson State got within double digits only three times in the second half as Northwest built its lead to as many as 18 and held off any kind of a Cougars rally.
Six different Rangers scored in double figures, led by T. Robinson's 17 points and Gosier's 16.
Northwest will enjoy a week off before hitting the road to Missouri State-West Plains on Tuesday, Nov. 28.
