WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. – Northwest had a three-game winning streak snapped at ASU Mid-South Thursday night, spotting the host Lady Greyhounds the first 23 points of the night in an 86-70 loss.
ASU Mid-South improved to 10-10 with the win, its first-ever in 14 tries over Northwest, while the Lady Rangers fell to 9-5.
Northwest missed its first 14 shots and fell behind 23-0 in the game's opening seven minutes.
Shernique Adams' free throw gave the Lady Rangers their first point with 1:36 left in the quarter.
Astraea Moore's jumper gave Northwest its only field goal of the quarter, as the team finished 1-for-19 from the floor and trailed 29-3 after one.
ASU Mid-South continued to pour it on and never allowed Northwest within 15 the rest of the night.
Northwest outscored ASU Mid-South 42-33 in the second half as
Averyale Joy and
Janesha Johnson tried to shoot the Lady Rangers back into contention. The pair combined for 33 points and Adams added 12 points and nine boards off the bench.
ASU Mid-South, which only dressed seven players, had five finish in double figures. Raven Morrow had a career-high 30 points, followed by a double-double from Samantha Jackson with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
The Lady Greyhounds outshot Northwest 40-30 percent on the night in the lopsided victory.
Northwest will try and bounce back on Monday, traveling to division-leading Itawamba for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
