Tyrin Jones Inks with Arkansas-Monticello

MONTICELLO, Ark. – Tyrin Jones, a second team all-conference selection for the Rangers last season, has signed with the University of Arkansas-Monticello to continue his basketball career.

"Tyrin is one of the toughest and most competitive guys that we saw play during the recruiting process," head coach Kyle Tolin said. "He is a vocal leader and played on a very good team. He's a great defender and kept getting better as the season went along. We are expecting great things out of Tyrin this upcoming season."

Jones had a stellar encore season for Northwest after averaging just 3.9 points as a freshman in 21 games off the bench. Jones was an important leader for the Rangers all season, averaging 14.5 points and 3.8 rebounds-per-game in 25 starts.

The Grenada product scored in double figures in 16 games, including 30 and 33 against Jones County in a pair of games. He shot 50 percent from the floor for the season, adding 44 assists and 37 steals to his stat line.

Jones was also named to the NJCAA All-Region 23 Tournament Team after averaging 26.5 points and 6.0 rebounds-per-game in a run to the region semifinals and participated in the MACJC All-Star Game, scoring 11 points with seven rebounds.

Jones helped lead Grenada High School to a 6A state runner-up finish and three consecutive district championships. As a high school senior, he averaged 16.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.7 steals-per-game and earned all-district and honorable mention all-state accolades.

Northwest has sent five players to four-year schools this offseason, including Virginia Tech, Austin Peay, Mount Olive, Trevecca Nazarene University and UAM.
