Minnesota Twins Select Domenick Carlini in 21st Round

SECAUCUS, N.J. – Southeastern Louisiana senior left-hander and former Ranger Domenick Carlini was selected in the 21st round by the Minnesota Twins on the final day of the 2016 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

"I'm beyond excited for this opportunity," Carlini said. "Everyone dreams of this and I've been working extremely hard for this moment. I'm very humbled to be a part of the Twins organization and ready to give the club everything I've got. I'm going to keep working hard to improve every day and hope to make everyone proud."

Carlini was 8-2 with a 2.03 ERA and two complete games in 16 appearances for the Lions this season en route to Second Team All-Southland Conference honors. In 97.1 innings of work, Carlini held opposing hitters to a .206 batting average while striking out 63 against 36 walks. He was 1-0 with three saves as a junior.

In a 3-2 NCAA Regional win over Utah Valley in Baton Rouge on June 5, Carlini scattered two hits, one earned run and four strikeouts to close his Lion career on a high note.

Carlini played the 2013-14 seasons for Northwest and helped the Rangers to back-to-back 30-win seasons, posting a 7-8 career record with five complete games, two saves and a 3.04 ERA. He struck out 119 batters (fourth most in school history) against 35 walks in 119.2 career innings pitched.

He was named "Mr. Ranger" after his sophomore season in addition to Second Team All-MACJC honors. Carlini was also selected the MACJC Pitcher of the Week on April 8, 2014, to kick off his sophomore campaign.

The Nesbit native and DeSoto Central product is the 18th all-time MLB draft pick by way of Northwest and sixth in the last four years.

Carlini will head to mini camp in Fort Myers, Fla., next week and then will be assigned to the Elizabethton Twins of the Appalachian League, a rookie-level farm club of the Minnesota Twins.
