Northwest Edges East Central 3-1 to Close TigerFest

BOONEVILLE – Sophomore Kayla Andrada's RBI-double in the bottom of the fourth broke a 1-1 tie and Tori Luke tossed three shutout innings to close the game as the Rangers held off East Central (Mo.) 3-1 on Saturday at Northeast's TigerFest.

Erin Claire Stegall's solo home run in the bottom of the first, the first of her career, gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead they would hold until the fourth.

ECC tied the game on Arlena Armstrong's two-out, RBI-single through the left side in the fourth before Andrada's go-ahead double in the bottom half. The Rangers would add a single run in the sixth on another Andrada RBI, a single up the middle that scored Olivia Owen after a leadoff double.

Sallie Rose Carver scattered six hits, four strikeouts and one unearned run in three innings before Luke closed out the final three to improve to 4-0 on the year. Luke was also 2-for-2 at the plate.

Northwest wrapped up the TigerFest with an exhibition game against Arkansas State's club team, falling 2-0, in a game that doesn't count towards the Rangers' overall record.

With four wins over the weekend, Northwest improved to 6-0 overall on the young season and will travel to Jackson State (Tenn.) on Tuesday, Feb. 22 for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
