Rangers Notch Close 85-79 Win over MSU-West Plains

SENATOBIA – Sophomore Keelin Jackson posted his second career double-double and his first of the season to pace three Rangers in double figures in an 85-79 win over Missouri State-West Plains on Thursday night at Howard Coliseum.

Northwest improved to 7-1 overall with the victory, while MSU-West Plains dropped to 5-6 on the season.

Tied at 9-9 within the first five and a half minutes of play, Northwest began to settle in and took its largest lead of the first half at 29-22 with just under five minutes remaining until the break.

MSU-West Plains closed the gap with a small 6-0 scoring run, thanks to four points from Darnell Butler, before the Rangers stretched the lead back to 37-32 with Jackson's three-pointer to close out the first half.

Although the Rangers raced out to a 13-point advantage at 48-35 to open the second half, the Grizzlies slowly clawed back into the contest and eventually took a 71-67 lead with 5:38 remaining.

Northwest tied the contest at 76-76 on a pair of Dante Sterling free throws with just over two minutes remaining. The Rangers would never surrender the lead from that point and used a Dakota Dailey 3-pointer and breakaway dunk from Therrell Gosier II to seal the win.

Jackson finished the night with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Dailey led all scorers with 23 points. Shelby McEwen and Isaiah Austin rounded out the Rangers in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

MSU-West Plains finished with three scorers in double figures, led by Ricky Torres' 21 on 9-of-13 shooting.

Northwest will open MACJC North Division play Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at East Mississippi (4-3).
