Dakota Dailey paced five Rangers in double figures with a game-high 23 points and Northwest rallied from a halftime deficit for a second straight night to defeat Lawson State 94-89 and stay unbeaten on the year.
Northwest improved to 4-0 on the young season, while Lawson State dropped to 0-3.
In a game that featured 18 lead changes and 15 ties, the Cougars led 50-47 at the half after shooting 58 percent from the floor.
Lawson State quickly stretched its lead to a game-high 54-47 on back-to-back layups to start the second half before an 11-4 Ranger run tied it at 58-58.
After a back-and-forth battle the ensuing 12 minutes, Dailey's pair of free throws with 3:50 to play broke the game's 15th tie and gave the Rangers an 81-80 lead.
Brandon Cranford then nailed a huge 3-pointer and Therrell Gosier II added a pair of free throws to extend the lead to seven and put the game on ice.
Coming into the game outscoring opponents by 62 points in the second half, the trend continued Tuesday night as the Rangers were able to outscore the Cougars 47-39 to earn a hard-fought, five-point victory.
Dailey scored 18 of his game-high 23 in the second half and Gosier posted his first career double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
Keelin Jackson,
Dante Sterling and Cranford added 10 points apiece.
Arthur Johnson had 22 points in 26 minutes to lead all scorers for Lawson State.
Northwest will continue a season-long eight-game homestand Monday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. against Arkansas Baptist.
