Lady Rangers Rout Arkansas Baptist 89-64

SENATOBIA – After falling behind by five points early in the first quarter, Northwest trailed just once in the game's final 34 minutes in an 89-64 rout of Arkansas Baptist Monday night. 

Northwest improved to 3-0 on the young season, its sixth consecutive home win. ABC fell to 0-6.

A 17-5 Lady Ranger run midway through the first quarter, sparked by a pair of threes from Averyale Joy and another one from Brooke Walker, gave Northwest an 18-11 lead. They'd hold the same seven point lead after one quarter.

ABC opened the second quarter with 12 of the first 16 points, taking advantage of four Lady Ranger turnovers.

The teams traded baskets the final six minutes of the second quarter, with Tamaria Thomas' layup giving Northwest a 43-42 lead seconds before the first half horn sounded.

Northwest started to pull away in the third quarter, stringing together a 12-0 run. Deja Faulkner and BrayLee Landreth took over at the rim before Shelbi Buford's 3-pointer made it 58-47 Lady Rangers with 3:54 left in the quarter. 

Northwest scored 19 of the first 21 points to start the fourth quarter to stretch its lead to a game-high 28, with Joy scoring eight of her team-high 20 points in the period.

The Lady Rangers outscored the Lady Buffaloes 46-22 in the second half to pull away for the 25-point victory.

Eleven different players scored for Northwest, led by Joy's 20 points, career-high 13 assists and six rebounds. Buford and Faulkner scored new career-highs with 17 and 15 points. 

Desi Mosley led ABC with 23 points, followed by Jazsmine Nelson with 12.

Northwest will travel to West Memphis, Ark., for the ASU Mid-South Tournament on Nov. 18-19, facing St. Louis and Blue Mountain JV. All games will be played at The Dog House on the ASU Mid-South campus.
