Luke Latham to Join West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Sophomore utility player Luke Latham will continue his career at the next level, giving his commitment to the University of West Alabama earlier this week.

Primarily used as a designated hitter in his two seasons at Northwest, Latham started in 48 of the Rangers' 50 games this season, hitting .226 with seven doubles and two home runs. He was also responsible for 29 RBIs this season, tied for third on the team.

The Batesville native played in a total of 85 contests (83 starts) in two seasons and finished his Ranger career hitting .235 with 12 doubles, a triple, nine home runs and 52 RBIs. He added 51 runs, 16 stolen bases and fielded a perfect 1.000 in 62 chances.

Prior to Northwest, Latham played for coach Chris McMinn at Magnolia Heights, where he helped the Chiefs to a perfect 38-0 record as a senior and back-to-back MAIS AAA Division II State Championships. He hit .367 as a senior with nine doubles, seven home runs and 31 RBIs.

Latham is the seventh Ranger from this year's team to sign or commit to a four-year program.

West Alabama finished the 2015 season with a 42-11 record and earned the Gulf South Conference Championship with a win against Delta State. The Tigers advanced to the NCAA South Regional but were eliminated by eventual NCAA Division II national champions, Tampa.
