SECAUCUS, N.J. – Sophomore second baseman
Dalton Dulin of Northwest has been selected in the 17th round by the Washington Nationals on the final day of the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
The Vanderbilt commit is the sixth highest draft choice in the school's baseball history. Dulin was also drafted out of high school in the 36th round by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2013 MLB Draft.
In his only season in a Ranger uniform, the MUS product and Ole Miss transfer hit .354 with a school-record tying 17 doubles, three triples, three home runs, 25 RBIs and 37 runs scored. He tied for the NJCAA Division II lead with 46 stolen bases on 53 attempts, breaking the school's single-season record of 35 set during the 2014 season. He added a .438 on-base percentage, drew 30 free passes and fielded .951 in 205 chances.
Entering the season, Dulin was ranked 97th in Perfect Game's Top 200 JUCO prospects list and was also listed as one of the Top 350 MLB Draft prospects by MinorLeagueBall.com.
Dulin helped Ole Miss advance to the College World Series as a freshman, playing in 38 games (11 starts) and hitting .264 with seven RBIs, six runs scored and six stolen bases. He also fielded .978 in 45 chances.
Dulin is the 17th all-time draft pick from Northwest and an impressive ninth since 2008.
