Balanced Attack Leads Lady Rangers to Rout of Lawson State

SENATOBIA – Led by sophomore Sara Lytle's fourth career double-double, all five Lady Ranger starters scored in double figures in a 92-71 rout of Lawson State Friday afternoon.

Northwest improved to 5-0 on the year while Lawson dropped to 6-4.

Tied at 17-17 after a quarter of play, the Lady Rangers slowly started to pull away.

Freshman Janesha Johnson scored 13 of her 16 points in the second quarter and helped Northwest take a seven-point lead, 46-39, at the half.

Northwest scored the first 10 points of the third quarter to open up a 17-point lead, with Lytle and Brianna Williams combining to score all 10. The lead grew to as many as 22 after Averyale Joy's layup after a Lady Cougar turnover.

The Lady Ranger defense held Lawson State to 29 percent shooting in the second half and 33 percent for the game. One of the nation's top 3-point shooting teams, Northwest was 9-for-25 from downtown and has hit 64 through its first five games.

Lytle led all scorers with 19 points and 14 rebounds, followed by 16 apiece from Johnson and Williams, 12 from Kelsey Brown and 11 points, seven assists and four steals from Joy. Destiny Gardner added nine points off the bench in 10 minutes.

Lawson State was led by Tywanna English's 14 points and 11 apiece from Alexis Lang and Aja Cumbie.

Northwest will put its unblemished record on the line Tuesday, Dec. 1 against Southern-Shreveport at 5 p.m.
