Northwest Finishes Second in 2014-15 NFCA Academic Team Rankings

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – With a 3.522 team grade point average during the 2014-15 academic year, the Northwest softball program has been recognized as having the second-best GPA in junior college by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), it was announced Tuesday.

Northwest has boasted one of the nation's top GPAs in three consecutive years, finishing as runner-up the last two seasons and sixth in 2013.

Back in July, Northwest had 15 players recognized by the NFCA as All-America Scholar Athletes for having a 3.50 GPA or better during the 2014-15 academic year.

Northwest was one of four MACJC schools who landed in the Top 10 along with Itawamba (third), East Mississippi (sixth) and Northeast Mississippi (ninth). College of Southern Idaho finished first in junior college with a 3.622 GPA.

Under 13th-year head coach Mike Rowan, Northwest finished the 2015 season at 27-10 overall and 19-5 in the division, qualifying for the state playoffs for the 10th time in the last 12 seasons and winning its third division championship. The Rangers have won 27 or more games in six of the last seven seasons.
