OXFORD – Senior catcher Jake McPhail of Lafayette High School has signed a national letter of intent to play baseball for head coach Mark Carson and Northwest Community College next season.

"Jake is a solid defensive catcher with a big arm," assistant coach Bill Selby said. "He's a tough, focused kid with a good work ethic. We're fortunate to have the biggest source of catching we've ever had as far as talent goes."

McPhail (6-0/180) hit .410 last season for the Commodores with 42 RBIs (second-most on the team) and fielded .991 behind the plate with only one error in over 150 chances. He was named the team's most valuable position player and was also First Team All-Division 2-4A.

Lafayette finished 20-14 and won the 2014 Region 2-4A title last season.
