SENATOBIA – Senior infielder David Herrington of Magnolia Heights signed a national letter of intent on Tuesday to play baseball for head coach
Mark Carson and Northwest Community College next season.
Herrington will follow in his brother Dex's footsteps and play both baseball and football for the Rangers.
"We think he's an impact player and is a multi-sport star," assistant coach
Bill Selby said. "He's fast, has a good baseball background and will benefit by going the junior college route. We could see him possibly playing third base or shortstop and expect him to come in as a freshman and contribute for us."
Herrington hit .321 last season with five doubles, three triples, 24 RBIs and a .415 on-base percentage. He added 22 stolen bases and scored 28 runs. He also saw action on the mound in 12 games, going 2-0 with four saves, a 1.65 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 17 innings of work.
On the gridiron last season for the Chiefs, Herrington rushed for 1,919 yards and 26 touchdowns and also threw for 585 yards and eight more scores. As a sophomore, he rushed for nearly 1,100 yards with 17 combined TDs.
