Box Score MOORHEAD – Mississippi Delta jumped out to a commanding 18-point first half lead and never looked back in handing Northwest its third consecutive loss, 78-66, on Thursday night.
Northwest fell to 7-6 overall and 1-3 in the north, while Delta improved to 6-7 overall and 2-1 in division play.
The Trojans started the game with a strong 14-2 lead by the 13:19 mark as Northwest was ice cold from the floor, starting 1-for-10 with nine turnovers.
Mississippi Delta highlighted the half with their largest lead of the game, 32-14, at the 5:11-mark.
Northwest went into halftime trailing 41-26, with the Trojans shooting 50 percent and owning a 28-8 edge in the paint. After a 1-for-10 start, Northwest hit eight of its final 16 shots to shoot 35 percent.
The Rangers were able to bring the deficit down to nine points, 50-41, as
Kieth Broome Jr. made three free throws at the 11:54 mark. However, the Trojans kept a strong front and won the game by double digits.
The Trojans outshot Northwest 47 to 43 percent, while forcing Northwest into a season-high 24 turnovers.
Travon Harper led Mississippi Delta with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Zamarius Griffin scored 14, Jaylen Ford contributed 11 and Tyrone McNeese added 10 points.
De'Sean Dockery and
Mark Partee led Northwest with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Sharwyn McGee added nine points. The Rangers owned a 40-26 advantage in bench points.
The Rangers will be back at Howard Coliseum Tuesday, January 20 to take on Coahoma. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
