Rangers Oust State Champions Itawamba, 99-82

Box Score CLINTON – Northwest built a 17-point halftime lead behind 65 percent shooting and never looked back in a convincing 99-82 win over 2014 State Champions Itawamba in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament Quarterfinals Thursday night at Mississippi College's A.E. Wood Coliseum.

Northwest improved to 13-10 overall while ICC's season came to a close at 17-10. 

The Rangers closed the night shooting a season-high 58 percent from the floor against 47 percent for the Indians. Northwest's bench provided a huge spark, scoring 40 points, led by Gavin Robinson with a game and career-high 21 on 8-of-10 shooting. 

ICC led by six at the 17:23 mark of the first half before an 8-0 run put Northwest in front for the first time at 10-8. From there it was all Rangers as the lead ballooned to a game-high 42-22 with 5:10 to play in the first. 

Northwest led 55-38 at the break. 

ICC pulled within 75-67 with 7:07 to play before a tough layup by De'Sean Dockery and trailing free throws by Tristan Moore quickly pushed it back out to double figures. 

Robinson put the finishing touches on a big night with an uncontested dunk with under 30 seconds to play.

Behind Robinson's 21, Dockery added 19, Dajon Reno had 14 points, Tristan Moore netted 13 points and added 10 assists and Rashon Coleman had seven points and a career-high 10 assists. 

ICC was led by Johnthan McGee with 20 points, Tyrone Wooten with 15 and Alex Anderson with 10.

The Rangers will play Pearl River (17-7) Friday night at 8 p.m. in the semifinals. On the other side of the bracket, EMCC and Jones County will play for a trip to the finals on Saturday at 8 p.m.
