Box Score 2 CLARKSDALE – Behind complete-game performances by
Cody Waddell and
Domenick Carlini, Northwest got back on the winning track with a sweep at Coahoma by 9-2 and 11-0 finals.
The Rangers combined to score 20 runs off 23 hits with seven doubles, a triple, nine stolen bases and 19 RBIs. Waddell and Carlini scattered six hits, two runs and 13 strikeouts on the mound.
Northwest improved to 13-9 overall and 4-4 in the north while Coahoma dropped to 2-18 and 0-6. The Rangers have won the last 14 overall.
Coahoma led 1-0 after two innings in Game 1, using an RBI-single by Hunter Necaise.
Northwest's bats came alive in the third, plating four runs off five hits and a Tiger error all with two outs.
Tanner Densford's RBI-single tied the game before
Chase Clark hit a bases-clearing double to right-center.
Taylor King's bases loaded RBI-walk, followed by
Stephen Sexton's bases-clearing double to right-center, allowed Northwest to plate four more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Waddell allowed just four hits and two runs while striking out six to improve to 4-0 on the year. It marked his second career complete-game performance, throwing 61 of 82 pitches for strikes.
James Lear led a 12-hit attack with a 3-for-4 effort, followed by Densford and
Hunter Austin with two hits each.
Carlini was absolutely superb in the finale, scattering two hits over seven innings and retiring 19 straight Tigers to cap the 11-0 shutout win.
Northwest put it away early, scoring four in the first.
Jay King hit an RBI-double to center,
Kramer Hollenbach hit a two-run single up the middle and Sexton hit an RBI-single to right-center.
The Rangers plated a single run in the fourth, three more in the sixth and three more in the seventh off
Brennan Pugh's bases-clearing double down the leftfield line.
Northwest had 11 hits and the bottom of the Ranger lineup went 6-for-12 with four RBIs.
Northwest hosts Arkansas Baptist (17-8) on Monday, March 24 in a makeup doubleheader at 3 p.m.
