Rangers Close 8-Game Homestand with Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SENATOBIA – Northwest closed a season-long eight-game homestand with a split against Holmes on Friday, dropping the opener 11-7 before bouncing back with an 11-4 win the nightcap.

Northwest moved to 11-7 overall and 2-2 in the north while Holmes moved to 16-6 and 1-3.

The Rangers rallied from a 4-1 deficit and took a 7-6 lead into the seventh inning of Game 1 before Holmes rallied for five runs in the frame to take the opener.

Peter Barton relieved starter Cody Waddell after six innings of work and quickly ran into trouble after a leadoff walk to Clyde Kendrick. After reaching on a walk and stealing second, Kendrick scored off a squeeze bunt by Cole Feazell to tie it at 7-7. Two batters later, Chad McNeil delivered the knockout punch with a three-run home run to right.

Holmes out-hit Northwest 12-10 in the opener, but was aided by a season-high six Ranger errors.

James Lear, Jay King and Hunter Austin had two hits apiece in the loss, with Austin providing the go-ahead fielder's choice RBI in the sixth that put Northwest ahead 7-6.

Eight different Bulldogs had a hit in the Game 1 win which snapped a 9-game losing streak to Northwest.

Holmes jumped in front first again in Game 2, scoring a pair in its opening at-bat thanks to Deion Ulmer's RBI bunt single and a throwing error.

Northwest quickly responded with two runs in its half of the second to tie it at 2-2, as Tanner Densford's two-run single to right field scored Lear and Kody Kimbrough

The Rangers would then bust it wide open in the third, sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring six runs off five hits to take an 8-2 lead. Hollenbach led off the inning with a double and Taylor King had a two-run triple and Jay King had a two-run single.

That was more than enough for Domenick Carlini (1-2), who earned his first win of the season in a complete-game performance. Carlini scattered seven hits, six strikeouts and four runs (three earned) and threw exactly 100 pitches, 69 for strikes.

Northwest will hit the road on Tuesday, March 18 with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Mississippi Delta.
