Northwest falls at Itawamba in Foul Fest

Box Score FULTON – In a back-and-forth game that turned into a foul-fest in the second half, Itawamba pulled away late with a 21-4 run to knock off the Rangers 95-83 Thursday night.

Itawamba improved to 13-7 overall and 8-1 in the north, while Northwest fell to 10-8 and 6-3.

Northwest trailed by as many as eight in the first, 30-22, but strung together a 12-2 run to take its first lead of the game at 34-32 at the 6:30-mark. Courtney Shannon and Rashon Coleman each hit 3s as part of the run and the Rangers took a 47-44 lead into the half.

The teams were tied five times in the first 8 minutes of the half before Northwest went up 69-66 with 9:06 to play after an Aston Morton layup.

ICC then caught fire, hitting seven of their next eight shots, and Northwest went ice cold missing seven of its next eight. The Indians outscored the Rangers 21-4 over a 7:04 span and put the game away late with free throws. 

ICC owned the rebound edge 43-28 and scored 27 second chance points off 21 offensive boards. The Indians also shot 50 percent against 46 for Northwest. 

Northwest was led offensively by Sharwyn McGee with 19 points and nine rebounds, De'Sean Dockery with 18 points and seven rebounds and Coleman with 17. The Rangers had 15 assists on 26 field goals.

ICC had four of its five starters in double figures, led by Johnthan McGee with 28, Tyrone Wooten with 18, Alex Anderson with 18 and Tory Rice with 10. 

The teams combined for 51 fouls (31 in the second half) and 68 free throw attempts.

Northwest returns home next Thursday, Feb. 13 to host Mississippi Delta at 7 p.m.
