Box Score FULTON – The inside presence of Gulf Coast's bigs was just too much for Northwest to handle as the Bulldogs outgunned the Rangers 108-97 Monday night in the MACJC Quarterfinals at the Davis Event Center.
Gulf Coast improved to 19-5 and advances to the semifinals on Wednesday at 8 p.m. against tournament host Itawamba. Northwest fell to 12-10 and will now await its seeding in the Region 23 Tournament which will be held March 5-8 at Mississippi College's Golden Dome.
A dominating first half in the paint set the tone for the entire night, with MGCCC scoring 40 of its 49 points in the paint and taking a double digit lead into halftime. They led by a game-high 17 at the 3:10-mark.
The game was tied once at 2-2, but it was all Bulldogs after that. Northwest played catch up the rest of the night and got no closer than five, 62-57, with 14:01 to play.
The MGCCC trio of Tony Bridges, an Auburn football signee, Roger Woods and Rashad Perkins combined for 75 of the Bulldogs' 108 points, with Bridges scoring 31 on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor and 10-of-13 aim from the charity stripe.
MGCCC outshot Northwest 57 to 46 percent for the game and spent almost the entire night at the free throw line. The Bulldogs shot 32 free throws in the second half alone and connected on 28-of-38 for the game.
Five Rangers finished in double figures, led by
Rashon Coleman with 16.
Dajon Reno and
Aston Morton added 14 apiece, De'sean Dockery chipped in 12 and
Sebastian Petty added 10.
Northwest's bench outscored MGCCC 41-15 on the night.
