Box Score SENATOBIA – Playing in front of one of the largest crowds in recent memory for its 2014-15 home-opener, the Northwest men's basketball team did not disappoint in an impressive 105-79 win over Mid-South
Thursday night at Howard Coliseum.
Northwest improved to 3-0 with the win, its best start since the 2005-06 season, while Mid-South dropped to 1-2.
The Rangers led for all but 2:28 of the game, running away from a 46-42 halftime lead and outscoring the Greyhounds 59-37 over the final 20 minutes.
Leading by 14 with 8:53 to play, head coach
Bubba Skelton was hit with a technical foul that ignited the home crowd and the Rangers' bench. Northwest responded with a 27-13 run over the ensuing 8 minutes.
Both teams shot over 50 percent for the night, but Northwest forced 29 Mid-South turnovers (17 steals) that led to 35 points on the other end.
Northwest connected on 11-of-21 3-pointers, with
Ashton Woodson,
Tyrin Jones and
LaJustin Anderson going a combined 6-for-6 off the bench.
Fourteen different Rangers scored on the night, led by Woodson (15),
Sharwyn McGee (13 points/13 rebs), Anderson and
De'Sean Dockery in double figures. Northwest's bench outscored Mid-South 64-25 on 24-of-45 (51 percent) shooting.
Northwest will take on Arkansas Baptist on Monday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. in Little Rock.
