Sharwyn McGee's fourth double-double of the season and six scorers in double figures, Northwest rallied for an 83-74 win over Hinds Thursday night to stay unbeaten on the year.
Northwest improved to 5-0, adding to its best start in nine years, while Hinds fell to 1-3.
Trailing by six early in the game, Northwest scored 19 of the final 31 points to take a 32-31 lead at half.
After back-to-back layups early in the second from McGee and
Sebastian Petty, the Rangers stretched their lead to 41-33 with 17:48 to play.
But Hinds rallied from an 8-point deficit and put together a 19-8 run to retake the lead at 52-49 with 11:59 left. The Bulldogs hit 7-of-8 shots during the run, highlighted by Kourey Davis' dunk.
Northwest decided to go inside for the ensuing 4 minutes and consistently got to the free throw line where they cashed in. After just four attempts in the first half, the Rangers connected on 20-of-25 free throws in the second half, finishing the night a season-high 83 percent from the line.
A 15-5 run gave Northwest the lead for good at 64-57, capped by
Courtney Shannon's 3-pointer.
Hinds got no closer than four the final 7:13.
McGee (14),
Tyrin Jones (11),
Ashton Woodson (11),
De'Sean Dockery (10), Petty (10) and
Kieth Broome Jr. (10) all scored in double figures in the victory and the Rangers' bench outscored the Bulldogs 30-2 on the night.
Hinds had five scorers finish in double figures, led by 17 from Davis and a double-double by Clayton Tate.
Northwest will return to action Nov. 17-18 at the Southwest Coca-Cola Classic in Summit.
